I am looking to get a tonneau for my 2017 Honda Ridgeline. I am thinking of the BAKFlip F1 Hard Tonneau Cover - Folding - Aluminum and Fiberglass Item # BAK72602. On the F1...can you close the tailgate without lifting the cover first? So if the cover is down will you damage it by closing the tailgate? Thanks

With the BAKFlip Tonneau cover # BAK72602 for your 2917 Honda Ridgeline you do need to have the rear most panel open before closing the tailgate or it could damage the cover. But there is a cover that will allow you to close the tailgate with the cover up or down.
For your Ridgeline it is the BAKFlip MX4, # BAK48602. The design of the MX4 will allow you to close the tailgate whether the cover is up or down in the closed position. The biggest differences between the MX4 and the F1 is that the MX4 is all aluminum and has a different rear seal.
