Recommended Tailgate Handle and Lock for 2004 Chevy Silverado
Question:
I saw the video. It looks like the lock can be defeated by simply pulling the plastic trim surround housing the key cylinder off. That takes less than 15 seconds. Am I missing something?

The Tailgate Handle with BOLT Lock # BL5922987 is more of a snug fit than you may realize. The plastic trim is a strong composite just like what comes from the factory. The front plate with the lock cylinder secures through the back of the tailgate to hold tight. The cam style cylinder has a metal hook that connects through the metal portion of the assembly that is secured with three bolts through the back of the tailgate.
Although anyone wanting to break into your vehicle could damage any component enough to enter, this is a stronger deterrent than it may appear. I've attached a video of the installation to assist.
Do not test the Bolt lock with any key other than the final coding key you desire because it will code to the first key used in the lock.
