Comparing the Thule Goalpost and the Erickson Big Bed Load Extender

Updated 07/13/2018 | Published 07/12/2018

Question:

Hello, I am debating between purchasing 1 Thule GoalPost hitch mounted load bar, and 2 Erickson Big Bed Load Extender, EM07600-07601. I need an extender in order to be able to carry our heavy, long fishing kayaks on the roof of our two vehicles. I have the following questions: 1 what are both products weights, 2 Erickson combo is only about $ more expensive than Thule GoalPost, but has advantages such as greater max load, and also being stowable. 3 If I choose Erickson combo model, will I be able to use it in conjunction with the roof racks on our a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander and b 2003 Chrysler Voyager?

Expert Reply:

The Thule Goalpost Hitch Mounted Load Bar part # TH997 weighs around 30 lbs and the Erickson Big Bed Load Extender for Truck Bed or Roof part # EM07600-07601 weighs around 57 lbs. As you mentioned, the Erickson load extender is less cost effective but also has a high weight capacity and is more easily stored. They both have a height adjustment from 54 - 66" so you can use them on either your 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander or your 2003 Chrysler Voyager.

I have attached a review video of each load extender for you which may help you decide which one is best for you but I am sure you will be satisfied with either purchase. From my perspective, the Erickson load extender is the better buy due to its features.
