Question:

I purchased a Demco 18K under bed mount auto slide 5th wheel hitch for my 2018 Keystone Cougar359MBI 5th Wheel RV. My question is this. At starts or going up hills or inclines I experience some chucking in the 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500 pick up truck. I see there are a lot of after market pin boxes to help eliminate or reduce the amount of chucking you get when driving down the road. I am not sure which one or ones will work with the Demco Auto Slide Hitch? Can your staff make some recommendations at which pin boxes will work best with the Demco 18K under bed mount Auto Slide Hitch. I should also say that once I am up and running down the road or when I have stopped climing up a hill the chucking stops and it is a smooth ride, till I hit another incline that has a grade to it. The only type of pin box that you cannot use with the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider part # DM8550022 that you have on your 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is one with a rotating turret. However, depending on which type of pin box you choose there may or may not be a capture plate that is needed.

For a cushioned pin box that will reduce chucking and jarring, I recommend taking a look at the 5th Airborne Premium Fifth Wheel Air Ride Coupler. This pin box will be exactly what you need to help smooth out the ride while climbing up any steep hills. It will reduce chucking by 60% and vertical shock by 44% when compared to a standard 5th wheel pin box. It is able to do this with an integrated air spring that can also be adjusted for the right amount of comfort/support.

In order to make sure you get the correct one for your trailer we would need to know the model number of the pin box you have now. The most common replacement is part # RP78FR which is a direct replacement for the Lippert 1621 pin box. You will also need to use the Demco Hijacker Autoslide Locking Plate for Extended 5th Airborne Pin Boxes part # DM6062 in order for this pn box to work with your hitch.
