4-Bike Hitch Rack for 2006 Honda Odyssey That Allows Vehicle Hatch Access

Updated 07/02/2018 | Published 06/28/2018

Question:

I just got a hitch installed on my 2006 Honda Odessa. I think the opening is 1 1/4 the whole unit is 2” but from what I’m reading you only measure the open space. We are looking at the swing out , 4 bike rack Thule or Yakima brands will it work with this hitch? What would you recommend for this vehicle

The type of hitch on your 2006 Honda Odyssey is a 1-1/4-inch Class II type, like # 36417 from Draw-Tite and # C12031 from Curt. Both have a 1-1/4-inch receiver opening but they do measure larger between their outside edges.

You'll want to review our Class II-compatible hitch-style 4-bike racks as you make your selection. I linked all such carriers and they do include products from more than one brand, but not Thule or Yakima products since their swing-away type racks are made only for the larger 2-inch/Class III type hitches. You can use one of their 2-inch racks if you replace your hitch with a Class III like # 75270 but if you want to keep your existing hitch we can still help you with a 1-1/4-inch rack that will give you rear-of-vehicle access, but these will require your to remove the bikes before tilting the rack.

The Thule Apex XT 4 Bike Rack # TH9025XT includes locks for the rack and for your bikes and it will fit BOTH 1-1/4-inch Class II and 2-inch Class III hitches. It will require the bikes to be removed before tilting. The video I included for you will show all the rack's features and operation.

If you do prefer one of the racks that actually swings all the way over to the passenger side of the vehicle, such as the Yakima FullSwing # Y02465, you can use one by installing the 2-inch hitch noted above.

There are multiple options to meet your needs if you switch to the 2" hitch.
