Replacement 10 Gallon Water Heater for Model G10B

Updated 08/24/2020 | Published 05/25/2018

Question:

I guess I forgot to mention that the existing old water heater is gas only. There appears to be no 120v wiring near the unit. I assume I could order basically the same model without the electric option? Thanks

The G10B is an older 10 gallon unit, as you mentioned, and to replace it I recommend the Atwood RV Water Heater # AT94022.

This water heater uses an automatic gas pilot with an electric heating element to produce up to 20 gallons of hot water per hour and is thermostatically controlled. It measures 16" tall x 15-1/2" wide x 20-7/8" deep and is made in the USA. The Double-Panel On/Off Switch # AT91230 will allow you to power the electric and gas components on and off individually. It mounts in your coach for easy operation. The Replacement Door # AT91385 will protect the components.

That's no problem, yes you can get the same unit that is gas only, the Atwood RV Water Heater # AT94191. The difference is this unit will produce up to 13-1/2 gallons of hot water per hour, instead of the 20 gallons like the unit with the electric heating element.

I am replacing the Atwood G10B in my 1975 Airstream with 45 years of excellent service and 2 1/2 million miles of travel. Unfortunately it leaks water in the lower right hand corner other wise still operational. I wish to follow your advise by ordering the AT94191 model but since I do most of dry camping in very remote areas, strictly off the grid, I need to know if it will function without 12 volt. According to your response to other G10B owners it will be an EXACT fit, the plumbing connections and I do not need 12 volt, correct? When I heard from you I will order. Thanks.

The Atwood RV Water Heater # AT94191 is what we recommend as a replacement. I'm not sure about this being an exact replacement for a 45 year old water heater (I wasn't seeing anywhere where we said EXACT replacement). This water heater does run off of 12V (or 120V) power as does every other water heater that we carry. The big difference (which Kyle mentions above) is that some have a manual pilot while some have an automatic pilot.
