Will the Reese Goosebox work with a short bed pu or is it design specifically for a long bed? I have a Ram 3500 megacab with the 6.5 bed.

The Reese Goose Box # RP85FR can be used with a short bed truck but it won't give you any additional turning clearance. If the 5th wheel trailer is really narrow or has a tapered front cap that was designed to be towed by a short bed truck then you would be fine. Otherwise the best solution would be to use a slider 5th wheel hitch.
If you happen to have a B&W Turnover Ball gooseneck hitch then you can use the Companion slider # BWRVK3400. Otherwise you will have to remove the gooseneck hitch and install above or below bed 5th wheel rails and use a slider 5th wheel hitch or a fixed 5th wheel hitch with a Sidewinder pin box.
