Question:
The part underneath my dash where I would plug in a brake controller is long, rectangular with eight holes. When I am looking at brake controllers for my 2006 xterra se the plugs all look square. How would I know whether a brake controller will fit my car? My car has the factory installed 7 way wiring .

I think you might be looking at the wrong connector.
The connector that the brake controller wiring adapter would plug into is located above the emergency brake pedal. It will be a white rectangular connector with 2 rows of three pins. The connector will be taped to another wiring harness. Sometimes the connector can be behind the harness its taped to, making it difficult to see. The photo shown for the 3050-P is an actual photo, the connector you are looking for will resemble the connector on the 3050-P.

This is the same connector I bought, however the colored blue wire falls on a empty slot, no pin for continuous current. Pretty much worthless. There is no blue wire under my dash, I only found 2 hot wires (red and orange) a black for ground and a smaller red for brake pedal. This doesn't make any sense. My wiring for my trailer has been a fight for weeks.still haven't figured it out. Wiring at back of vehicle is missing plug n play, someone before me has hacked it up.
