Question:
Ive got a 2011 GMC Canyon I5, 2WD that Im looking to do some light towing with a popup trailer.. Im looking for the best solution to add a brake controller to the truck. What parts could/would you suggest? I expect to tow only a couple/few times a year. The truck has the stock tow package installed.

The Prodigy P2 part # 90885 would be your best option. This brake controller is a simple to use and install controller that will sense the amount of braking your tow vehicle is applying and apply the trailer brakes in a similar intensity. It's also incredibly reliable so we recommend it very highly for everyone and for your 2011 GMC Canyon.
To install it requires wiring it to the blunt cut wires under your dash.
I attached an install video for this controller in a 2010 GMC Canyon just like yours for you to check out as well.
