Question:

Have a Tekonsha p3 brake controller on a 2016 Jeep. Want to move it to a new 2018 Jeep, so Im going to need a new wiring harness. Had the controller mounted in passenger footwell on old Jeep but it takes up limited foot room. Is there any reason I cant mount the controller in the rear cargo area? I only pull one trailer with a relatively fixed load so I dont have a need to adjust brake setting. Also, can I mount the controller so it is sitting upright mounted with face of controller is pointing up? Thank you

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 referenced in your question can be mounted at any vertical angle, as long as it is pointed in the direction of travel and the front of the unit is horizontal. Take a look at the image I have attached for clarification. You can absolutely mount it so that is is sitting up right, as long as it still pointed in the direction of travel.

It is technically possible to mount the controller towards the rear of your vehicle if you have the needed length of wiring, but I do not recommend this. Even though you shouldn't have to do much adjustments on the controller with the trailer you are towing, you will still want its display screen to be easily visible for any potential troubleshooting/error messages that might arise. You will also want to have access the manual override knob when needed to power the brakes manually.

At this time, there is not a plug-in brake controller harness available for your 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited. You will simply need to hardwire the controller to your Jeep's harness under the dash. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to ensure you connect the red wire from the controller to the cold side of the brake light switch on the vehicle, which is the wire that only receives power when the brake pedal is depressed. If you need a replacement pigtail harness, you can use # 20127.
