Question:

In response you your response (ha ha) my vehicle is a Discovery Sport model and the entire roof is glass. My goal is to carry my two Kayaks on top of the vehicle and I will be travelling quite a distance so I need something quite secure.

Absolutely! A Land Rover Discovery is referred to as the Land Rover LR4 here in North America. This is not to be confused with the Land Rover Discovery Sport which is an entirely different vehicle altogether. The Discovery/LR4 came with two different roof options which were a bare roof and roof with factory installed tracks.

If you have the factory installed track system then you can use the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbar System which is composed of the the crossbars part # RRVA137B-2, mounting feet part # RRRLT600, and fit kit part # RRQMVA05. This system has aero crossbars to reduce both wind noise and drag in addition to containing channel mounts for use with channel mounted roof top accessories. This option will not require you to drill into the roof of your vehicle.

If you have a bare roof then the only option we have for you is the SeaSucker Monkey Bars Roof Rack part # 298-SX6000B which uses vacuum cups to secure the crossbars to the roof therefore will also not require any drilling. This system features round crossbars which are constructed of aluminum and have a silver powder coat finish.

If you can tell me what you will be using the rack for I would be happy to make some compatible recommendations for you.

Ahhh, well that does change things a bit then. If by "the entire roof is glass" you mean that the vehicle does not have any factory installed raised side rails then the only option we have for you is the SeaSucker Monkey Bars Roof Rack part # 298-SX6000B explained above. If the vehicle did however come with raised factory side rails as most did then you can use the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbar System which is composed of crossbars part # RRVA137B-2 and mounting feet part # RRSX026. This is also the same as the above for the exception of different mounting feet. In order to carry two kayaks with either set of crossbars, I recommend using two sets of the Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carrier part # S512 which I have attached a review video of for you. This carrier comes with everything you need to attach the kayaks to the crossbars including tie-downs and anchor straps. Please keep in mind that before proceeding with your roof rack and kayak carrier purchase you will need to consult the vehicle's owner's manual for the weight capacity of your roof.
