Does the Goose Box Cause Increased Risk for Bedrail to Fifth Wheel Overhang Clearance?

Question:

I am interested in the Goose Box but am concerned because my 2017 F450 Pickup already has very little clearance between the overhand and the bedrails Abour 5.5 due to these new trucks sitting so high at the rear. Because the Goose Box lowers the pivot point of the hitch to near the bed of the truck Vs the pivot point being about 1.5foot over the bed, is there additional risk for their the fifth wheel overhand making contact with the bed rails during an offset angle turn? Also, is there increase risk of the Pinbox making contact with the tailgate or rear of the truck bed? Basically, Im trying to understand what lowering the pivot point might due when towing with newer trucks that sit higher and have taller bedsides. Thanks!

A Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter like # RP85FR will give you about the same clearances as a 5th wheel hitch with a standard pin box. The newer trucks with the slightly higher bed height have not been an issue with clearances for the side or rear, but each trailer is different so I can't guarantee complete functionality.

You do want 5-6 inches between the top of the side rails and the underside of your 5th wheel. I've attached a photo to assist. This is needed for the turning clearances when on an incline to prevent contact.

An option to increase your clearance height of your trailer would increase the overall height and possibly allow you a little more clearance over the bed.
