Mounting a Tekonsha Prodigy P1 and Prodigy P2 Brake Controller

Question:

Tekonsha P3 purchased from etrailer in 2007. Todays P3 model seems to have different features than mine e.g., multiple trailer settings. Question: I understood in 2007 that it could be mounted in any 360 degree front to back orientation. My 2007 manual doesnt explicitly say that, however, whereas the current manual is very explicit that todays P3 can be todays manual has a 360 degree illustration my manual lacks. Is the 2007 model the same in that 360 degree mounting respect?

In looking at the various manuals and model years, its very likely that if you have a Tekonsha Prodigy from before 2009, you'll likely have an original Prodigy P1, which looks almost identical to a Prodigy P2, part # 90885. They're so similar, that we even ended up reusing pictures from the Prodigy P1 because the casing didn't change.

However, you can tell the difference between the two. The Prodigy P1 has red LEDs in its information display. The numbers and status lights are all red. Another great hint you have the P1 is if you keep finding its informational MiniDVD that originally came with the controller. (I have a drawer of these from a lot of different products)

The Prodigy P2 on the other hand, has blue LEDs for all of its status lights.

If you have the red LED's and the Prodigy P1, then you can only mount up to 70 degrees above level in the direction of travel.

If you have the blue LED's and the Prodigy P2, then you can mount in a full 360 degrees in the direction of travel. This feature was carried over to the Prodigy P3 as well.
