What Is The Correct Way To Wire Pollak 7-Way Connector # PK12707

Updated 07/19/2011 | Published 07/17/2011

Question:

I am replacing my trailer wiring connector on a 2007 Dodge RV Pleasure-Way Sprinter Van. The existing Pollak connector has the Ground white wire attached to the center pin, and the Reverse wire attached to the 7 oclock position or where the Ground wire would normally be attached . There is no wire for electric brakes. Is there any reason for this existing wiring to occur, or would it be best to re-wire according to normal conditions where the Ground wire is at the 7 oclock position and the Reverse wire is atteched to the center pin? I bought the van used and do not have a trailer yet but may have the need to pull a trailer sometime later on. Thanks for your help.

It sounds like the previous owner had just wired the connector the wrong way. Also, in the instructions for Pollak connectors, they use a different color to label the wire functions. Perhaps that caused confusion on the initial installation.

When looking at the front side of the connector, the ground pin would be in the 7 oclock position as you stated. The reverse pin would be the center pin.

I would recommend using a circuit tester like part # 3808 to test the wire functions and make sure you connect the correct wires in the appropriate location.

I have attached pictures showing how the 7-way should be wired. Also linked is an FAQ on wiring.
