Trailer Hitch Fits for 2012 Kia Rio SX Sedan with Dual Passenger-Side Tail Pipes

Updated 03/05/2018 | Published 03/03/2018

Question:

Trying to figure out if the items listed for my vehicle will fit due to its double pipe exhaust on the right side. I see draw-tite and curt are available for my car, but not sure if they fit my specific model.

We offer two light-duty Class I hitches for your 2012 Kia Rio SX Sedan that are shown on the linked page, Draw-Tite # 24884 and Curt # C11250. These share identical capacities of 200-lbs tongue weight (TW) and 2000-lbs towing weight. Note that your vehicle itself may be rated differently so consult your printed manual.

If you refer to the photos of these two products you will note that the passenger side mounting bracket is contoured so that it fits around the dual tail pipes.

If your intended use is transporting a Class I bike rack you may prefer the Draw-Tite hitch since it does not require you to use a support strap # 18050 as the Curt hitch does. Both hitches come with all required hardware, complete instructions and will install in an identical manner.

The key to selecting a hitch bike carrier that will fit well on the car is knowing the position of the hitch pin hole on the receiver tube relative to the back edge of the bumper. Please refer to the linked article,

On the Draw-Tite hitch # 24884 the rear mounting holes on the two side brackets are 5-inches forward of the hitch pin hole. You can use this dimension to determine where the hitch tube will be once installed. Find the rear mounting hole on either of the car's frame rails and measure to the rear by 5-inches. This is where the hitch pin hole will be. Now measure from there to the back edge of the car's bumper cover. This last dimension tells you how much clearance you need from a bike rack for it to avoid contact with the vehicle.

The Kuat Transfer V2 rack # KU74FR provides 6-inches of clearance from the hitch pin hole when folded up in its storage position. If you need a Class I platform rack with more clearance you might like the Swagman XTC-2 # S64670 which provides 8-inches of clearance from the hitch pin hole.

Do note you can carry only two bikes on a Class I hitch.
