In order to tow a 5x8 trailer from U-Haul with your 2017 Toyota Corolla, you will need a trailer hitch, wiring harness, and ball mount.
Starting with the trailer hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24913. This Class I hitch is confirmed to fit your Corolla and will use existing holes in the vehicle's frame for a no-drill installation. It features a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening and a towing weight capacity of 2,000 pounds. I highly recommend checking the owner's manual for your vehicle for its specific capacities or restrictions when it comes to trailer towing. The online owners manual I found for your vehicle stated that towing a trailer was not recommended.
I have attached an installation video on your vehicle that you can use for reference.
Then for a trailer wiring harness, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Wiring Harness # 118405. This custom-fit harness will install on your vehicle by connecting directly to built-in ports located behind the driver and passenger side tail lights (inside the trunk). Once connected, you will simply run the hot lead up to the vehicle battery. This will provide you with a 4-Way connector that will connect with the 4-Way that is equipped on the U-Haul trailer to power its signal lights.
Lastly, you will need a ball mount and hitch ball. The Draw-Tite Drawbar # 3593 will work great with the Class I hitch and features a 2-1/8 inch rise or 2-3/4 inch rise. If this does not have the rise or drop needed to tow your trailer level, I have attached an article that will assist you in finding the best ball mount for your setup. For a hitch ball you can use the 2 inch # 19258 or the 1-7/8 inch # 19256 depending on what size ball the coupler on the trailer accepts.
I have attached a couple additional articles on trailer towing that you might also find helpful.
