Question:

From what I can tell, it looks like the draw tite requires lowering the muffler, but the curt does not. Is there really that much difference between the 2? I would be installing this in a driveway, by myself, so I would prefer if I didnt have to remove anything. I will never trailer anything, but want a cargo carrier, and having to use the stabilizing straps is the only thing keeping me from getting the curt.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C98CR does require temporarily lowering your exhaust on your 2018 Chevy Equinox to Install. This install is considered a difficulty level of 4/10. The access holes need to be enlarged by drilling, filing, or rotary tools. Curt hitches require the stabilization strap # 18050.

I don't like the stabilization strap requirement, and the the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76419 does not require one. The installation is a little different due to the angle of the support and not the install location. The video shows the 4 bolts you will need to remove and the strap they use to support the exhaust. This hitch is also considered a 4/10 difficulty level to install. I would recommend this one so you don't need the strap.

I've attached the page of all your 2 inch receiver cargo carrier options to assist. I recommend the etrailer # e98874 for a really nice folding carrier. It also has an optional light kit # e98943-44LED that is a nice addition.

The installations should take about the same amount of time, and if it were me, not having that stabilizer strap is worth the effort of working around the exhaust. I also prefer not rounding out the hole in the frame. I've attached both installation videos to assist.
