It sounds like you are experience what is known as hyper-flashing. It happens when a trailer has LED lights and it is not drawing enough power for the tow vehicle to recognize that a trailer is back there, or it acts as though there is a short on the circuit. You can verify this by checking your vehicle and trailer connectors and wiring for any corrosion or damage that may be done to them. If they look good and your grounds are secure and connected to a clean surface then hyper-flashing should be the problem.
This can be remedied with a Lamp-Out Sensor Bypass # 20142 if you have a 7-Way, or you can install load resistors, like part # DI34ZR, which will cause the trailer to draw more power and allow the LED lights to function properly.
