My technical contact at Hopkins confirmed that their EasyLift Truck Bed Tailgate Lift # 74211 does NOT work with the tailgate on your 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 Double Cab pickup. The reasons include a different metal gauge than on older trucks (that are compatible) and the presence of OEM brackets that interfere with the torsion bar.
DeeZee offers a Tailgate Assist # DZ43102 that is a confirmed fit on your Sierra 1500. This is a cuistom-fit item made specifically for your Sierra 1500. This is a no-drill install using included hardware.
