Prodigy RF Brake Controller Installed on a 2006 Range Rover HSE

Updated 06/17/2011 | Published 06/15/2011

Question:

Per Ranger Rover instructions, I installed a tow wire harness to my 06 RR. It is a standard 7 pin connector. My trailer lights and blinkers are now in working order. RR does not provide wiring for a brake controller, which means that we have to have the wires run to and from power and brake switch. Given the details above, are you certain that the RF model will work with the RR and, in your last post, you stated that As long as your Range Rover has a functional 7-way connector with an operational 12-volt accessory lead. What do you mean by operational 12-volt accessory lead? Thank you.

Since this Tekonsha Prodigy RF Brake Controller # TK94FR will actually mount to your trailer you will not need to wire power wire and brake switch wires from your 2006 Range Rover. It will get the signal from the 7-way that is on your vehicle.

Since the blinkers and brake lights are already functional on your vehicle wiring harness the only thing else that you will need to be functional would be the 12 volt power source. What was meant by functional 12-volt power source is basically that there will be 12 volts power source available on the correct pin (1:00 position of the 7-way as you are facing it).

If you are not sure if your 12 volt accessory port is functional you could use a Circuit Tester # PTW2993 to test the pin for voltage. If there is not voltage you will want to run 10 gauge wire # 10-1-1 through a 40 amp circuit breaker # 9510 to the positive terminal of your vehicle battery.
