Will Towing Trailer Cause Rear Vehicle Suspension Springs to Break
Published 12/18/2017 >
Question:
Hi, I used to own a 2008 Mercedes ML320 CDI and traded it when I discovered a broken rear spring / shocks. I towed 4000 lbs with it and have wondered if my towing contributed to the spring / shock breakdown. I now have a 2014 ML 350 Bluetec and I would like to use it to tow my new boat that weights 4000 lbs. Would a weight distribution hitch reduce the load to my rear sprints / shocks? Can I use a weight distribution hitch on my factory Mercedes Class III receiver hitch? Thanks,

I am sure that towing didn't help the spring, but broken vehicle suspension springs is a very rare occurrence and not one we ever really see here so I would not put the fault of what happened to your vehicle on the fact you were towing.
Only Mercedes will be able to tell you if the factory hitch of your 2014 Mercedes ML350 is weight distribution rated. The Draw Titch part # 76141 that we offer for your vehicle is though so there's a good chance.
