Comparing the Master Lock Trailer Winch # 2953AT with Superwinch # 1220210

The rack and pinion for the Master Lock Electric Trailer Winch, # 2953AT, is in reference to the way that the winch brakes. It is a mechanical system that can support a load when stopped and the clutch is not engaged (which would allow the line to be pulled out).

A dynamic brake uses the motor to apply tension to the drum and it cannot hold a load. If it were me, I would go with Superwinch # 1120210, for the fact that it has the ability to power the load in and out. The Master Lock winch can only power the load in. Would the above winch mentioned (Superwinch) work to lower and raise a topyhauler back patio door? Thank you

@Janet That’s a great question. The Superwinch LT2000 can pull a load in and let it out, but it’s not really designed for something like a toy hauler patio door. The main concern is that it doesn’t have a strong built-in way to hold the door in place when you stop, so over time the door could slowly move or put stress on the setup. For something like a patio door, you’ll want a solution that can safely hold the weight without slipping, since that door is heavier and needs to stay put once it’s in position. I know the goal is to make it easier to open and close, but this type of winch isn’t the best fit for that job. Are you trying to make the back patio door easier to lift up and down? @HeatherA Hey Heather :) Thanks for the reply. Yes I am just wanting it for when we open and close as i am short and cant close it very easily. We will have the door itself supported on legs of some sort when lowered for patio use. Appreciate the help :)

@Janet Yes, we do carry the Gorilla-Lift, it’s part # GL1. It’s a really nice option for what you’re trying to do since it’s designed to take a lot of the weight off when lifting and lowering a ramp style door. That said, I just want to be upfront that it was originally designed for utility trailer tailgates, so the main thing we’d want to confirm is that you have enough space along the sides of your toy hauler door for it to mount properly. When it fits, it can make a big difference and take that heavy “dead weight” feeling out of lifting the door, which sounds like exactly what you’re after. Since you’re already planning to support the door with legs when it’s down, that’s a great setup and the lift assist would just make the opening and closing part much easier for you. Do you happen to know roughly how wide your ramp door is or what model toy hauler you have?
