Trailer Hitch for a 2016 Volkswagen Passat SEL with Easy Open Trunk

Hi, I have a 2016 VW Passat SEL with the hands free trunk assist. I am looking to buy a hitch for my car. Is there a discrete hitch that will not interfere with trunk assist?

I have a recommendation for you, but unfortunately there isn't a hitch that's guaranteed to not interfere with the performance of your hands free trunk.

For the 2016 Volkswagen Passat SEL, I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe, part # 24880 for your vehicle.

This hitch is compatible with the Passat SEL trim package, provided you don't have the technology package installed. I was unable to confirm the specific features of the vehicle that indicate it has this package, but Volkswagen's Owner's website will allow you to search by your VIN number to see the specific information of your vehicle and what packages it has equipped.

When it is installed, it will be about 4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper, giving it a more hidden look than normal. This hitch's crosstube is hidden, and I've attached a picture of how it looks on the rear of the vehicle for you.

According to Draw-Tite, installing the hitch may reduce the hands free sensor on the lift gate. I wasn't able to find any solid information about how much the performance is affected.
