Question:
I want to order a hitch for my 2010 Ford Fusion. I would like a ball mount with a five inch rise which, together with a three inch ball, would get me to a 19 3/4 inch hitch height.. I have seen some but they specify they are for a class II hitch only. I read somewhere that a class I hitch has a tab or something that prevents the use of a class II mount even if it is designed for a 1 1/4inch receiver. How now Please answer promptly. I want to order today.

Rise or drop is not measured to the top of the ball but instead to the top of the platform on the ball mount that holds the ball. So that is going to change things a little. I have included a link to a help article that explains how to measure for rise/drop to tow a trailer level.
For a hitch I recommend going with Curt hitch # C11390 for your 2010 Ford Fusion. You mentioned that some Class I hitches have a tab in them meaning some Class II accessories will not fit. This hitch does not have that tab. Once installed from the ground to the top of the receiver opening is approximately 11-3/4 inches. To get to 19-3/4 inches you would need to have a ball mount with an 8 inch rise. But if you subtract the height of the ball you only need a ball mount with a 5 inch rise like you said.
There are no 1-1/4 inch ball mounts with an 8 inch rise but there are some with a 5 inch rise (which is the most you can get in a 1-1/4 inch ball mount). I recommend # C45014. It will work with the above mentioned trailer hitch. For a compatible ball you can use # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 19258 for a 2 inch.
And to add a trailer wiring harness to your Fusion you can use # 118422 to provide a 4-Way flat connector to the rear of the vehicle.
