Hitch, Wiring and Ball Mount for 2011 Hyundai Elantra Touring Hatchback

Updated 09/14/2017 | Published 09/13/2017

Question:

I want to make sure I am ordering the proper equipment for my vehicle. I need to be able to tow a lightweight 5x8 trailer behind my 2011 touring. I am reading that I should order the harness #118473, the Sportframe Receiver #24844 and the DrawBar #19260 for a 1 7/8 ball. The weight limit will be kept below the 750 pounds that I have read is available for towing on this vehicle. Again this is for a 2011, Haundya Elantra, Touring Hatch Back. Will I need to modify any of the trim on the vehicle. If I have missed anything or read bad information as far as the towing on this vehicle pls inform me. Thank you so much for your time.

We do offer a confirmed hitch fit for your 2011 Hyundai Elantra Touring hatchback, the Draw-Tite Class I hitch # 24844. This custom-fit hitch offers no-drill installation but it will be necessary to remove the external dress panel beneath vehicle. The entire installation process and tools required are detailed in the linked instructions. I linked a helpful article too.

For wiring (if the trailer has lights) you can use 4-pole harness kit # 118473 which offers simple plug-in installation at your tail lights with no wire splicing required.

Ball mount # 3594 is indeed the recommended part and can be used with either 1-7/8-inch ball # 19256 or 2-inch ball # 19258.

I located and reviewed an online edition of the owner's manual for your 2011 Hyundai Elantra Touring and on page 5-51 it states that the vehicle is not recommended for towing a trailer. Your own printed manual may contain different information about your specific car so definitely check the manual index under "trailer towing" to confirm. A helpful article on towing is linked for you as well.
