Replacing Subaru Outback Factory Hitch with Draw-Tite 2-inch Class III Hitch Model 75673

Question:
I am replacing the Subaru Outback factory Class I hitch with a DrawTite Class III hitch. My question is what to do about the crossbar of the factory installed Class I hitch, does it need to be replaced for stability reasons with a new bar can the hitch be cut off flush and the bar put back on? Can it simply be removed or is this bar needed? Not sure what would have been there if the car hadnt come with the Class I hitch pre-installed. Thanks!

Expert Reply:
The Draw-Tite 2-inch Class III hitch model # 75673 will install in place of the factory 1-1/4-inch hitch without need to leave any part of the OEM hitch in place. The crosstube of the Draw-Tite will provide a similar reinforcement between the car's frame rails.
You can refer to the linked video, written instructions and help article for a complete picture of the install process, tools required and tips to facilitate the install.
