Why Does Trailer Hitch for 2011 Ford Transit Connect Have Higher Capacity than Vehicle
Updated 08/16/2017 | Published 08/15/2017 >
Question:
A quick search online shows the 2011 Ford Transit Connect has a 2000 pound tow capacity. Your section on tow hitches shows a 3500 pound capacity with one of your offered hitches installed. What accounts for the difference? Id like to be able to tow a 2400 pound boat with a 400 pound trailer. Thank you.

The trailer hitches are tested for a weight capacity independent of the vehicle they are designed for. That's why the Draw Tite hitch part # 75678 has a higher towing capacity that the 2011 Ford Transit.
In these situations you have to go with the lowest rated component in the setup as the overall capacity.
