Question:
I have the Curt 17300 WDH but the shank and head are so heavy I can barely lift them anymore. 75 years old Will the RP54998 fit the Curt. What is the weight of the RP54998. What is the spacing of the holes in RP54998. Our TT weighs 3200 lbs and tongue weight about 350 lbs. Can you suggest an alternate WDH with lighter weight shank/head assembly?

Expert Reply:
Reese weight distribution shank # RP54998 and the one that comes with Curt weight distribution system, 17300 (discontinued), weigh about the same which is 20 pounds so you would not benefit from switching shanks. The various weight distribution heads also weigh about 20 pounds (not counting the ball) so really you are looking at a combined weight of around 40 pounds no matter which system you go with.
The Reese trunnion bar head, round on system # RP66020 is the lightest set up since the head is a little under 20 pounds. The shank and head will weigh about 35 pounds. With this system you can keep using the Curt shank that you already have as well as the ball.
