Can I Install the Rhino-Rack Rooftop Cargo Bag on Roof Racks?

Question:

Is it true that I need a basket to install this? I have a 2006 Audi A4 with a set of Rhino Rack crossbars, but not the basket. Im looking at this as well as the Rola Platypus which would seem to work, but is water resistant, not waterproof as is the Rhino Rack bag.

For these items, the intent is for them to buckle inside a cargo basket. A roof basket like the Rola Mounted Basket, part # 59504 would let you use it. The Rhino Rack Rooftop Carrier Bag, part # RRLB350, only has straps long enough to connect to a roof basket, not all the way around and through the inside of the vehicle or even around just the factory roof rails.

A better solution for you would be a bag that outright mounts to your existing roof rack, such as the Rightline Gear Ace Jr. Roof Cargo bag, part # RL100A50 or its slightly larger brother, the Ace 2, part # RL100A20. Both of these will mount over the top of your existing roof racks and allow you to load as though you had a roof basket.
