Question:
I have a 2005 toyota tacoma... The trailer lights were hot wired in.. I had to re do the brown wire. To make it easy I tapped into the license plate light.. The tail lights on the truck n trailer work fine.. As do the blinkers...All works except the brake lights.. Am I suppose to tap into another wire in the truck?? if so which one? The truck n trailer has a 4 pin connector.. Thank you

The blinkers and brakes should be on the same wire. 4-way systems put the right blinker and stop on one wire and the left blinker and stop on another wire. Then the remaining two wires are running lights and ground. I've attached an article to assist. You can test your vehicle 4 way using the Brophy 4- and 5- Way Flat Circuit Tester # F5CT to ensure proper function on the vehicle side.
My recommendation is to use the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118496 which will convert these functions for you. This harness plugs into the factory plugs behind each tail light or along the frame rail of your truck. I recommend using the Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat # 18144 to give your 4-way a location to rest and prevent dragging.
Then you can simply make sure that your trailer matches the functions.
