I am an elderly lady traveling with two others. I am short. Will I be able to reach up to put the luggage in the carrier?

If you can reach the top of your vehicle easily currently you'd most likely not have a problem loading cargo in the part # CTC-18S. Most likely though sometime like the tire step part # ALL647596 would work well to give you additional height to reach up to the box.
Or for a step stool we have the part # CAM43676 that can fold out.
