Question:

Why cant the Yakima Adapter Y8890174 work with the Holdup rack? I thought I read somewhere on your sit that said it wouldnt work, and Im just wondering why. I read in a forum somewhere that it is being used on the Holdup rack, but just wanted your advice.

The Hitch Adapter # Y8890174 is for the Flipside, DoubleDown, and StickUp bike carriers. It's a direct replacement part for the adapter that was included with those racks. The HoldUp doesn't have a model that fits both a 1-1/4 inch and a 2 inch using an adapter. It has two different models, one for 2 inch hitches, # Y02443, and one for 1-1/4 inch hitches, # Y02445.

To convert the HoldUp from a 1-1/4 inch to a 2 inch you can replace the spine using # 8890277. Or to convert it the other way use # Y8890278 for black or # Y80126 for gray.
