Are Weight Distribution Spring Bars Universal or Brand-Specific

Question:
Following up a question http://www.etrailer.com/question-225672.html?fb=yes Are trunnion style bars and their ends that attach to the hitch universal fitment OR are they company propriety tech? For example would a Reece trunnion bar fit a Curt hitch and vice versa?

Expert Reply:
All weight distribution system parts, except for the shank component that fits into your hitch, are proprietary and brand-specific. You could mount a Curt WD head on a Reese shank (or the reverse) but the spring bars and other parts need to be from the same maker as the head assembly into which they will be installed.
I linked our main page for trunnion spring bars. Select bars based on the brand of system and the trailer's fully-loaded tongue weight. Ideally the total TW will fall near the middle of the bar's operating range. For instance, Reese trunnion bars # RP66009 work for trailer TW up to 1200-lbs so they would be ideal for a TW of 700-800-lbs.
