Recommended Backup Camera for Use on a 1993 Ford Van With Offset License Plate
Updated 05/24/2017 | Published 05/23/2017 >
Question:
I have a 1993 Ford E250 Van with split rear doors and the license plate on the right door about 18inch above the bottom of the door spare tire on the rear left. Will this or another back up camera work in this case where the license is not centered on the vehicle ? Will be using the back up camera primarily for hooking up trailers but like the feature that can be used for everyday use to monitor load on hitch mounted cargo carrier or for back up parking. Am a bit concerned about the clarity of a wireless set up. Many thanks for you fine and useful products.

Having a good viewpoint while backing up is definitely a concern if the license plate on your 1993 Ford Van is off-centered. I really have my doubts that the Hopkins Smart Hitch # HM50002 will work well even just for hooking a trailer up.
A lot of the wireless setups that we have to offer actually do have a pretty clear signal. If you would like to go that route the Rampage Wireless Backup Camera # RA7710 is a great option because it the camera itself uses magnets to mount so you can easily move it around for the best vantage point. You will use your smart phone as the monitoring device.
If you would rather go with a wired option I recommend going with the Rear View Safety Backup Camera System # RVS-770619N. The monitor replaces your current rearview mirror and you will need to drill your door to mount this but it is a solid option that doesn't rely on a wireless connection for use. It does feature night vision though which will help you hook up your trailer in low-light situations.
