Recommended Plug-In Trailer Brake Controller Harness for 2016 Ford Expedition

Updated 05/22/2017 | Published 05/20/2017

Question:

Ihave a 2016 expedition el. My brake control adapter Hopkins #47855 fits the factory plug but when I plugged the controller into the car the computer in the vehicle does not work properly and the car wont start. Can I change the pin pattern in the wiring harness to make this work? it fits the oem plug but the pins dont match. I do not want to harm my factory computer in the expedition. Additionally, Do I need to have the Black and purple wire hooked up to the electric plug if I am not using auxillary power or Back up lights Thanks

The Hopkins Plug-In Simple Brake Control Connector # HM47855 referenced in your question is compatible with 2008-2011 Ford F-250/350 trucks. This is why the pins are not matching up with the factory port on your 2016 Ford Expedition.

Rather than altering your existing harness, I recommend getting a compatible plug-in harness like the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Brake-Control Wiring Adapter # HM47845. This adapter is confirmed to fit your vehicle and will work with Hopkins Plug-In Simple brake controllers (Agility, Impulse, Reliance and BrakeForce). Reconfiguring your existing harness may damage the harness or cause more issues with your Expedition when installed.

If you have a different trailer brake controller, I will be happy to recommend a compatible plug-in harness for your Ford Expedition if you are able to tell me the brand and model you have.
