Can this rack be recut to fit a smaller car? I am contemplating getting this Rhino rack for my 2001 Nissan Maxima. However, I anticipate selling that car in a year or so and then I would like to put this rack on my sons 2013 Subaru Impreza. I understand this is custom sized but would it possible to resize/recut the rack later to fit the Subaru. I dont want a rack with the ends that protrude beyond the shoulders.

Technically, you could trim the length of the bars in Rhino-Rack roof rack kit # RR38FR for the 2001 Nissan Maxima. However, the ways the bars attach to the roofs of the Maxima and the 2013 Impreza is different so you would still need some additional parts to get the roof rack to fit.
The bars for the Maxima are long enough if you go to a 2013 Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX or Wagon WRX but not for non-WRX models because on those one bar is longer than either of the bars for the Maxima.
So provided that you go with WRX you will just need fit kit # DK292.
