Question:
Hi, I purchased a 2017 Ram 2500HD Mega cab truck with the 6.4 ft bed. So far it doesnt have anything setup for towing my 5th wheel. What would you recommend for towing with this vehicle? Ive heard the Andersen Ultimate hitch may work as well as the Reese Sidewinder. Which would be safest/best or do you have something else better? The 5th wheel is a 2006 Jayco Jayflight 275RKS. My old 2011 Chevy 2500HD with the 68 bed I traded in had a regular Valley Powerpull 5th wheel hitch and I never came close to hitting the cab but I was careful when backing. I still have this hitch which I could have installed but would like to get the best setup without regretting a wrong decision. Thanks.

For your 2017 Ram HD Mega Cab with a 6.4 foot bed that does not have the factory rail kit, I recommend looking at a sliding 5th-wheel hitch to provide the additional clearance that will be needed for making tight turns.
The Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16521 along with the Custom Installation Kit # C16427-204 is a great option for towing your Jayco Jayflight with your Ram. This sliding hitch will provide up to 12 inches of travel front to back and a hitch height between 17-1/2 inches and 21-1/2 inches. This hitch also features a nice 2-jaw system to provide 360-degree jaw-to-king-pin contact. This will result in less rattle and more security at the connection point. It has a gross towing weight capacity of 16,000 pounds and a vertical load limit of 4,000 pounds. I have attached a video review of this product for you to check out.
The clearance this sliding hitch will provide will be sufficient for making tight turns. With a 6.4 foot bed, replacing your trailer's king pin with a Reese Sidewinder is not needed.
If you do not have one already, I also recommend adding a 5th-Wheel Wiring Harness like the Curt # C56000. Once installed, this will provide a 7-way connector in the bed of your truck for easy hookup with your trailer.
