Installing Trailer Wiring Harness # 119250KIT, 2007 Volkswagen Golf MKV GTI with a 3 Wire System

Question:

Hello, I am getting ready to buy a trailer hitch and wiring harness for my 2007 mkv gti. I found an answered question on your website and I believe this applies to my car model. Reading the directions outlined in the link above Im still not clear on what to do with the running lights - do both the brown and white wire go to ground? Is this because there are no running lights on the rear of the car? Many Thanks

For a 2007 Volkswagen Golf GTI, I recommend using the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT. I have included a link to the installation details for reference.

You will want to follow the installation steps for a 3 wire system. If your system has combined stop and tail light functions, what you will do is attach the red stop light wire to the corresponding stop light wire on the vehicle. The brown running light wire will need to be grounded along with the white wire.

If your MKV has combined stop and tail lights AND has an additional tail light wire independent of the stop light wire, attach the red stop light wire to the combined circuit and then attach the brown wire to the independent circuit.
