the 50 21/32inch measurement ,, Whitch side of the rail do you measure to? The cab side or the tail gate side? Thanks Paul

5th wheel base rail installation always references the rear edge of the rear rail and uses the edge of the bed (not the tailgate) as the measurement point. Once the rear rail is in position the front rail is easily placed using the front hitch legs as a guide.
For the Reese Semi-Custom Base Rail and Installation Kit # RP30035-023 you referenced the rear edge of the rear rail should be 26-5/16-inches from the edge of the bed on your 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 short bed. Please see page 11 of the linked instructions.
