How Is Tow Ready T-One Connector w/Upgraded Circuit Protected ModuLite Powered On 2010 Lexus RX-350
Published 12/14/2010 >
Question:
Unlike my previous Lexus RX models my 2010 does not have a connector for trailer wiring built into the existing harness. Does this wiring kit require that or does it connect to the existing brake/tail lights? If it does how does it keep the vehicle computer from sensing too much load or, worse, a burned out lamp when none exists. I dont want to drive around with a lamp malfunction warning light on the dash or with one turn signal lamp blinking at double speed or short out the whole computer or any part of the wiring which I am sure the vehicle warranty will not cover.

The item you selected, T-One Connector w/Upgraded Circuit Protected ModuLite, part # 118478, connects in-line with the running light, brake light and turn signal circuit, and will work great on your 2010 Lexus RX-350.
Part # 118478 does not require a built-in connector in the vehicle wiring harness to connect to your vehicle.
The T-One Connector w/Upgraded Circuit Protected ModuLite draws power directly from the vehicles battery via an in-line fuse so your electrical system is safe. Part # 118478 is designed this way to protect your electrical system. There would only be a slight draw from your tail light power that would only be used as a switch to activate system, the power source would come straight from battery and the circuit is protected though converter box.
To install, you would begin at the rear of the vehicle, by removing the plastic trim, to access the tail light harness. You will then unplug the tail light harness, beginning on the drive side, and plug in the T-Connector to reconnect the harness. The T-Connector with the Yellow wire will plug into the driver side, the connector with green wire will need to be routed to the passenger side. Next, you will need to ground the White wire to the frame of your Lexus. Then, you will connect the Red wire on converter box, with supplied butt connector to the Black 12 gauge wire. You will run the Black wire to the battery, you can route the wire through an existing grommet and outside the vehicle along the frame, or through the inside of your Lexus along the door frame trim and through grommet in firewall. Before connecting to battery, you will need to disconnect negative battery terminal, then secure fuse holder to positive battery terminal, install included fuse, and connect Black wire then re-connect Negative battery terminal. Now you can find a place to mount converter box and re-install trim panels.
Consumers of aftermarket products are protected by the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle actually caused the problem in question. With part # 118478, it is designed as to not interfere or cause harm to the vital electrical system of your vehicle.
I have linked instructions for the T-One Connector w/Upgraded Circuit Protected ModuLite, part # 118478, that you may find as a good reference.
