Replacement Breakaway Switch Recommendation for Trailer with Malfunctioning Switch
Published 10/18/2016 >
Question:
I picked up a trailer from a friend and while hooking up I noticed the plug from the breakaway switch was unplugged so of course I plugged it back in. The wheels are now locked up and the only way to move the trailer is to unplug from truck. I have disconnected the breakaway switch from the battery box but it still does not move when plugged into truck. My truck does have the braking system in it but unsure how to over ride this issue.

Sounds like the breakaway switch has gone bad and is somehow working in reverse. You would want to replace the switch so that when the plug is pulled the brakes lock up and not the opposite or all the time.
The part # HM20060 would work well as a replacement.
