There are two ways you can get a fifth wheel hitch on your 2005 Silverado with the 5-1/2 ft bed. You can go with a fixed fifth wheel hitch like the M5 Series, part # RP30928. You will then need to change out the pin box on your trailer and replace it with a Sidewinder that will give you the ability to execute corners.
The fifth wheel installation kit I recommend is part # RP50064-58. This is a custom kit and it cuts the installation time in half when compared to using the standard kit like part # RP30035.
If you decide to go this route you will need to know the make and model of your pin box. Let me know what pin box you have on the trailer and I will see if we have a Sidewinder pin box that will work for you.
The option I recommend is to go with the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, part # DM8550041. This hitch slides automatically and gives you 22-1/2 inches of additional clearance that is critical when executing tight turns. This is an automatic slider so you do not have to exit the truck like you do with a manual slider. This hitch has a 13,000-lb gross towing weight capacity.
I also recommend the underbed installation kit, part # DM8551004. This leaves you complete access to your truck bed when you are not towing and have the hitch removed.
We also offer the Demco Hijacker Autoslide, part # DM8550040 which is designed to work with the above bed rails, part # DM8552009-71. This system still provides the 22-1/2 inches of additional clearance but uses above bed rails which remain in the truck bed when the hitch is removed.
If you do not have a trailer harness for your fifth wheel in the bed of your truck I recommend part # 41157.
