Question:

I have a 2 place, Thule T2 Classic 9044 that I currently use on the 2inch receiver of my Subaru Forester. I would like to use this same rack with 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix. Could I use theCurt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # C12225and the Brophy Hitch Adapter 1-1/4inch to 2inch Trailer Hitch Receiver to make it happen? The rack itself is 50lbs, and the two bikes are no more than 35lbs each.

I have another option for you. You'll want to use the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # C12225. Due to the higher 300 lb tongue weight capacity of this hitch, which is lowered to 150 lbs by the # HTAD adapter, you could use your Thule # TH9044 rack and still have a little capacity remaining.

The problem you're going to run into using a Class I hitch along with the adapter is that the tongue weight capacity of the hitch will be reduced by 50 percent. The rack weighs about 45 lbs minus the shipping box, and with two bikes of 35 lbs apiece, you'll be at 125 lbs, which would exceed the 100 lb capacity that results from using the adapter.
