Gooseneck Trailer Coupler Like # BDGN240200 Is Difficult To Operate

Question:
Hello, I have an old Terry 5th Wheeler I have just purchased. I have found it extremely difficult to remove the vehicle from the ball as I have to have the height just right for it to release. Will this BDGN240200 alleviate t he problem? and would it be a simple job to just change the actual coupling device over to a new more easy to use one like this one you have for sale. At this point in time we do not know the actual ball size. Our coupling mechanism is exactly the same as the picture for the SM2516NP but yours apparently opens without adjusting the height of the 5th Wheeler is that right? Many thanks .

Since the # BDGN240200 is a weld-on application. I am not sure if it would be easy to just change out the coupler on your trailer as it will require cutting and grinding to prep for the new weld. You may simply want to try some white lithium grease to see if that frees up the current mechanism a bit and makes it easier to unhook the trailer. It is designed to allow you to move the lever to open the jaws and pull the vehicle out.
If that does not help you may want to consider either replacing the coupler or the entire assembly with part # BD1289140300. This is designed with a 4-inch square inner tube and a 4-1/2 inch outer tube and is welded to the trailer.
The gooseneck coupler head part # BDGN240200 is designed to be welded to 3 or 4 inch tubing and works with a 2-5/16 inch ball.
I have attached a link to the couplers and couplers with tubing you can check out.
