There are two possible trailer wiring options for the 2010 Chevy Malibu depending on which model you have. All models except the LTZ, use the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118450. This is a T-One harness that plugs in line with the vehicle taillights. The connectors with the yellow wire go to the left taillight and the connectors with the green wire connect to the right taillight. The white ground wire gets attached to the bare metal surface behind the left taillight. I have included a link to a video installation on a similar vehicle below.
For the LTZ model, the correct wiring harness is Upgraded Circuit Protected Modulite with 4 Pole Harness and Hardwire Kit, # 46255. This is a special harness that includes a powered converter for systems that use pulse width modulation, 3 wire systems, or otherwise multiplex wiring systems. The converter box requires a direct connection to the vehicle battery to protect the sensitive wiring and to power the trailer lights (the connections to the taillights only provide the signals to the trailer lights). I have included a link to the installation details for you.
