What Is Normal Operating Temperature Of Transmission Fluid When Towing

Question:

I have a2011 Dodge Durango . It has a complet towing package , the engine is a 3.6 v6 in the tranny is 5 speed automatic all wheel drive . My camper is 2016 rock wood GVWR is 4037 lb dual axle ,overall length is 21.7 feet. Can you tell me what is the safe operating temp for the transmission

Expert Reply:

The normal operating temperature of transmission fluid should be between 160 to 200 degrees. I have heard it is not advisable to run a transmission higher than 210 degrees.

Transmission fluid starts to break down at 260 degrees.
