To tow a trailer with your 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee you will also need a ball mount, hitch pin and clip, hitch ball, and wiring harness. Based on my research, the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch on your Grand Cherokee is a 2 inch Class III trailer hitch, # 75699.
To provide you with a great starter kit for towing, I recommend the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit for 2 Inch Hitches # 989900. This kit includes 2 ball mounts (one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and the other with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop), 2 hitch balls (one 1-7/8 inch diameter and the other 2 inch diameter), a hitch pin and clip, and a storage bag.
You can measure your Grand Cherokee's hitch height and the trailer's coupler height to ensure that one of these ball mounts will offer you the correct rise or drop needed to tow the trailer level. I have attached a help article on measuring for the correct ball mount for you.
If this kit does not offer the correct rise or drop for you to tow your trailer level, let me know the hitch and coupler heights and I will be happy to find the correct ball mount for you.
The size hitch ball that is needed is determined by the size of the trailer's coupler. Typically, smaller lighter trailer will use a smaller hitch ball and larger, heavier trailers use larger hitch balls. the 1-7/8 inch hitch ball in the # 989900 kit has a gross towing weight capacity of 2,000 pounds. The 2 inch hitch ball in the kit has a GTW of 7,500 pounds.
If your Grand Cherokee did not come with a factory tow package and does not already have a trailer wiring harness, I recommend the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118425. This wiring harness will provide you with a 4-Way flat connector. This connector will provide trailer turn, stop, and taillight signal. I have attached an installation video of this wiring harness for you.
I have also linked help articles on parts needed to tow a trailer and tips on towing a trailer for you.
