Question:

What is the correct dimension from the opening of the receiver to the centerline of the locking pin hole? Is this different on Class I vs Class II receivers?

Expert Reply:

The hitch pin hole depth inside the hitch is different between Class I and Class II hitches. The manufacturers have done this to prevent Class II accessories, that are often heavier or can carry more, in Class I hitches to prevent them from being overloaded and damaging the hitch or vehicle. They weld a stop inside a Class I hitch so that Class II accessories with longer shanks cannot go all the way in.
