I have a 2 1/2 x 2 1/2inch tube... can I use the 3 x 3inch and use steel shims to make up the difference?

Since we do not offer a folding coupler designed for 2-1/2 x 2-1/2-inch trailer tongues you can use the Fulton folding coupler # FHDPB330301 along with shims to make up the 1/2-inch difference in trailer tongue height and width. The material you add to the trailer's tongue should completely fill the mounting area on the folding coupler so that there is full contact between the tongue and the interior of the coupler. These shims should be welded into place by a qualified welder.
This Fulton steel coupler bolts on to a steel trailer tongue using included hardware but note it cannot be used on an aluminum trailer.
