Question:
I have a 2001 ram 2500 hooked up to 2012 16foot haulmark Kodak. Trailer works fine on my 2006 but when hooked up to the 2001 it blows stoplight switch. When the flashers are on for an extended period of time it blows the j-case fuse for flashers. Also when the left turn signal is on it changes the idle of the truck. No effect withe the right signal. Controller is Primus IQ Please help if you can? Thank you.

It sounds like you may have a short in your wiring on your trailer or on your truck. Check for any pinched, loose, or damaged wires and make the repairs as needed.
If that all checks out then you can check the trailer connector on your 2001 as it may be wired differently than the 2006. You can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and check the wiring connector without the trailer hooked up.
Have someone sit n the cab and run through the functions while you check the pins on the connector. You want to make sure they match the wiring configuration that you have on your 2006.
There may be an issue with the trailer wiring that does not show up on the 2006 but does on the 2001. I have attached a helpful article on trailer wiring that contains drawings of how wiring is typically installed on a trailer. The article also shows 7-way connectors and has the function of each pin shown as well.
